I think we should go Jukebox because… March 19, 2009

I think the Jukebox idea will be a better experience for people because it can involve more people at a specific time/moment in comparison to the presidential one, where only one person can experience the scene at a time. Therefore the Jukebox idea would be able to share an experience with so many more people, not just one at  a time, maybe two or three, while others are watching and waiting their turn. The presidential one wouldn’t get as much attention I think.

I agree with everyone with shopping at thrift stores  like Value Village as well as Malabar costume store just down the street on Mccaul, they allow you to rent costumes which could definitely work. The costumes I do not think will be an issue at all. As for the set design, some beautiful, colourful paint can do wonders on wood or cardboard. I think we should make the jukebox larger than life to make it stand out, depending on where our site is. THe jukebox could be placed in the centre while the black curtains are behind it on either side, where the performers are hiding. There could also potentially be a hidden door on the jukebox where the character(s)/people selected come out of, instead of say through the black curtain.  THat would make the reveal more interesting I think. The stage manager would have to be right there to make sure they are getting the right person out at the right time.

I’m not so sure about the 50′s diner experience idea, I like it, but for the different range of music and such that we want to play, it wouldn’t really be fitting. I know the jukebox works with it, but what if Madonna comes out.. it probably wouldnt all work together, you know? I also do not think we should have a announcer, maybe a voice that the audience hears coming from nowhere, but not an anouncer..that would make it like a performance.

So I have a white Marilyn Monroe dress that I would love to wear if we need a Marilyn Monroe ahah! Imagine if we set up a fan and everything, that would be hilarious I think. I am willing to dress up and make a fool of myself, it will be fun! and I would to help out with shopping/choosing the costume selections for everyone. I also have this great idea that we should have JAI HO- the song that won an oscar from Slumdog Millionaire as a selection. A few people should totally come out full out in Bollywood costumes and do a little dance around the person who selected it. I used to take dance classes and so I am fully up to choreographing some dancing for whatever dancing involved. I think some of the scenes could use a little bit of choreographing to make the experience that much more intriguing.
..GO JUKEBOX!

Jukebox has my vote! March 19, 2009

Hello all,

Here are some of my thoughts. I apologize if I talk about your ideas and not write down your names, I was trying to pull ideas from everyone that I liked and make a summary for us to use in class.

The first thing I thought of when I read Dario’s user scenerio is that it would not be nice to be stuck in a box. I also read the other posts, about the separate room where the performers will emerge from. I think it would be a better idea to make it so that the performer comes out of any place and many different places. I think this would be more surprising and it would give us more flexibility.

To make the ‘performance’ more interactive we could have an activity attached to each song for the performer and the user to do together. Examples: Dancing around with Fiest, Air Guitar with Kiss, Flirting with Madonna.

We need big loud speakers!

Is there any way to eliminate having someone controlling it all the time? What about modifying an existing player and sticking it in the box?

I think a mini 50s diner because all of our fellow ixd school mates are going to be tired. Having a place to sit and eat could entice them into the experience. If we had that room with the bar/kitchen area we may be able to serve some food and raise money for a good cause!

Support the take-home video idea.

Support the different styles of music idea.

Support having some songs during which the performer would act out the emotion instead of dress up as a celeb.

Tasks (because I like to organize):

make juke box (cardboard, foam core, paint, plexi, 50s aesthetic), make 50s diner setting, organize food and money collection, electronics, lighting?, costumes (sewing?), actors, control panel team, poster team for promotions, branding team for logo, name

I am interested in several things. I would like to be a performer (I would love to do dancing with feist), build the 50s diner set and exterior of the jukebox. Also, the role of stage manager may suit me well.
